EN1097-2 specifies two test methods, one is the Los Angeles Machine and the other is the Impact Tester (AG400).
The Los Angeles Abrasion Machine consists of a steel cylinder, electric motor, automatic digital counter, gear box, substantial base frame, drawer/collector, door, rubber wheel and bearings.
The cylindrical drum is mounted on a substantial base frame. During the use, the cylindrical drum is operated by an electric motor. This activates, at regular rotation speed, a rubber wheel thanks to a reduced gear. This rubber wheel adheres to the outside drum wall provoking it's movement. The cylindrical drum is equipped with an opening to introduce the specimens and the abrasive charges inside.
